Jefferson Hills provides a continuum of intensive services through inpatient, crisis stabilization, staff secure residential, and day treatment programs.  All our programs focus on strengthening children, youth, and families through evidence based practices and data informed services.  Safety, trauma informed care, family engagement, and hope  are the cornerstones of all aspects of our care.  Partnering with community providers, we link our services for aftercare and follow-up services.

Lead Nurse Position Purpose:

Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Services, the Lead Nurse plans, directs, and develops policies related to the administration of nursing care, coordination with the medical and clinical teams, quality improvement; and nursing related education of new staff and youth. The Lead Nurse is administratively responsible for the management of the nursing department. Responsibilities include:

  • Assists with developing priorities, goals, and action plans; develops and maintains scheduling procedures for staffing of nursing care.

  • Assists in formulating philosophy and objectives; establishes standards of nursing care and nursing practice.

  • Selects, orients, supervises and evaluates shift nurses; establishes standards of performance and maintains an evaluation system for nursing personnel; assists with identifying educational needs for staff and establishes in-service/development programs; collaborates with professional and technical schools to enhance clinical education programs relevant to nursing scope of practice.

  • Facilitates communication and problem solving for departments; leads or serves on committees; serves as a liaison between the medical staff and ancillary departments.

  • Serves as a resource person; develops, interprets, supports and implements policies and procedures; responsible for planning, preparation, utilization, evaluation and monitoring of budget.

  • Acts as member of interdisciplinary team responsible for smooth operations of facility

  • Ensures departmental activities and records adhere to regulatory requirements; evaluates the nursing care given and makes recommendations to develop action plans for improvements; assists with development and implementation of service standards and patient satisfaction.

  • Oversees compliance of staff to infection control practices and mandatory education requirements.

  • Maintains a culturally and socioeconomically sensitive environment for children/youth.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/ Qualifications:

  • Employee must have graduated from an accredited school of nursing and hold a current Colorado RN / LPN license. Strong assessment skills in various fields preferred but not required. Critical thinking skills, problem solving and excellent documentation skills a must. 

  • 1 year management or leadership of a team of nurses or other medical professionals

  • Employee must hold and maintain current CPR certification.

  • Successfully completes all required trainings in a timely manner.

  • Follows and enforces all Jefferson Hills’ Policies and Procedures, including but not limited to confidentiality, sexual harassment/harassment, dual relationships, physical and sexual abuse reporting, Corporate Compliance and Code of Ethics.

  • Must be willing and able to perform physical restraints with clients using required CPI technique
